Trailer Overview
Kya bana diya bhai… ekdam bawaal.
It’s rare that a long trailer is impressive and Dhurandhar trailer hits it out of the park! Let’s discuss this trailer in detail.
The Length
O yeah. my first thought was the same even before opening the trailer. Because it. came late and not at 12:12 PM, I received a few messages with the link when it came out and most of the people had mentioned the length. Ab toh sabko pata hai trailer lamba nahi hona chahiye.
But the best part was how they cut the trailer and what they chose to show. Aao aage discuss karte hain.
The Cut
Absolutely brilliant!
I’ve always said, every editor has the full film with them, and it’s up to them what they choose to show and in what order. In Dhurandhar, they did not take the normal approach of telling the whole story in the trailer. They did character introductions.
So despite such a long length, Most of the time is taken for introducing the 5 main characters. Arjun Rampal alone takes 1:12 minutes of the trailer. And in between the character intros, there are a lot of B-roll as fillers. Means less plot and more glimpses.
Use of title cards, music and sfx is so brilliant that it keeps you hooked from start to end. Such an amazing cut that the length is not a complaint at all. Blown away!
The Plot
So the movie is set in Pakistan. Ranveer Singh is a RAW agent, and R Madhavan plays the character of National Security Advisor of India, Ajit Doval. Its possible they won’t use the exact same name, but people have already decoded its him based on his look from the teaser.
Rest 3 characters – Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt are people from Pakistan, doing their own mafia stuff. Ranveer is on a mission, but we don’t exactly know what it is, and that is a brilliant thing, as trailers these days reveal everything.
Apart from this, we don’t exactly know what is happening in the movie, how these characters are interlinked. The trailer is not cut in a linear format, from start to end, toh ye nahi pata ki kiske baad kya ayega. Wo hota hai na full story dikh jati hai trailer mein, wo nahi hua.
Intense Action
The action sequences look awesome! Raw, gritty, and brutal. You can see they have put in more effort than movies claim to be action movies with the biggest budgets and stars. I think bahaut maza ayega theatre mein.
Brutality
Ye teaser review mein bhi likha tha. Ki accha khoon kharaba hoga. Arjun Rampal ka scene ki dimag kharab kar deta hai. Akshaye Khanna ek admi sar tarbooz ki tarah phod deta hai. There is a blast scene where the body explodes with blood and flesh flying around. Aur bhi kuch brutal shots hain.
Film ko toh pakka ‘A’ certificate milne wala hai. Bas ye CBFC taang na adaye.
Characters
One of the best things in the trailer is that all 5 characters are presented as parallel leads. Every buddy has a name and a title. The title is there both in the posters and trailer. Here they are if you missed –

- R Madhavan – The Charioteer of Karma
- Sanjay Dutt – The Jinn
- Akshaye Khanna – The Apex Predator
- Ranveer Singh – The Wrath Of God
Music
Can we appreciate the music, please? In a world of crap songs, unwanted remakes and digitally produced BGMs, the msuic of this film feel different. The kind of different we felt in Animal 2 years ago. Not comparing with Animal or wish to do any Ranveer-Ranbir crap here. I hate that nonsense stuff. I’m just trying to mention the two directors who made different choices in terms of music.They broke the clutter that nobody seems to figure out.
Final Thoughts
The film looks terrific and I am very excited. Adita Dhar seems to have nailed it with Dhurandhar. This is the kind of detailing in Cinema we need, and he did it without boasting about stuff by PR, like so many big films do. Bas badi badi baatein aur bekar film. The biggest studios are making the same mistakes on repeat.
My only fear is CBFC now. Other than that I’m quite excited for Dhurandhar now!
