For the first time in history, an entire album of a film has entered on Spotify charts.
The fervor of the blockbuster hit “Animal,” starring Ranbir Kapoor, continues to reach new heights as its Hindi music album emerges as the highest streamed Indian album on Spotify.
With an electrifying lineup of tracks, the soundtrack has captured the hearts of audiences nationwide with 800 million+ streams, solidifying the film’s status as a cultural phenomenon.

Vanga’s Unique Choice of Music
Animal was filled with unconventional yet interesting music choices. The audiences were pleasantly surprised by the range of languages and culture of music used in the film.
For instance, “Jamal Kudu”, used as the entry music for Bobby Deol is an Iranian folk song which was discovered by Sandeep Reddy Vanga through internet and research. The music and beats of Jamal Kudu instantly resonated with the audience and it blew up everywhere on the internet upon release.
The popularity was so much that TSeries released the lyrical version of the song on their YouTube Channel on popular demand of the fans which is a rarity in today’s times. After a while, when they were confident that most of the audience had seen the film and they were not spoiling anything, they released the full video song.

Barring this, the director also used a cover version of A.R.Rahman’s “Dil Hai Chota Sa” and “Roja” made by Three Medley Band which he discovered from Youtube. Both, the band and the cover gained instant recognition and popularity as well. Fun Trivia: The Three Medley Band were also called upon for a cameo in Animal when this cover was played during Ranbir Kapoor’s entry sequence.

Animal – A True Pan-India Film
The director created the album of Animal in a way that it featured music to represent and embrace various Indian cultures and languages. Haiwaan – A Punjabi Soundtrack which was played when Ranbir goes to call his cousins, Dolby Walya – A popular marathi song used in the pre-interval sequence and the most popular of all Arjan Vailly – A folk Punjabi song used in the hotel fight sequence, this diversity in the soundtrack was very unique in Indian Cinema.
Jamal Kudu was an Iranian folk song, Hua Main had a hint of rock, being a romantic track, Papa Meri Jaan, Satranga and Pehle bhi Main were as Bollywood as they could be and Kashmir had no music, just vocals. Who would have thought that the final fight of the film, which is always considered the biggest face-ff between the hero and villain of the film, would sync so well with a slow, emotional track like Saari Duniya Jala Denge. That is some creativity we don’t see so often.

To everyone’s surprise, despite Sandeep Reddy Vanga, being from the southern part of India, used Marathi and North Indian Music better than any North Indian Bollywood representation.
BGM – The Hero After Ranbir
Additionally , the BGM of Animal was a runaway success as well. From Killing Jeeja to the College Scene BGM, each and every BGM was a standout and had a unique quality of it’s own. The whistles used in the college scene BGM were given by the director himself that shows how creatively involved he was in the process of making the music of Animal.

Big Hit On Spotify
The Animal Music Album is a big hit on Spotify. It’s been topping the charts, showing how much people love it. The album made history because since it came out, all of its songs got into the Spotify charts.
This had never happened before.“Pehle Bhi Main”, a composition by Vishal Mishra is currently charting on number 1, six months since release. This tells us the magnitude and impact of the soundtrack of Animal and the sheer rage it has been. The remarkable collaboration between Harshvardhan Rameshwar, the creative genius behind the music, and the visionary director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, along with the strong support of T Series, has contributed to the phenomenal success of the album.

A Lesson For Film Music
Most of the film’s music in the last few years, especially post pandemic, have failed to create an impact. Both directors and producers have either taken Music as granted or they are stuck in a decade old formula. Either they make unnecessary remakes, or they try to use digital beats that can trend on reels.
Music needs to be as per the narrative of the film. Earlier, the lyricists were given brief regarding the story of the film, the situation when the song is going to come and the emotion needed as per the characters in the song. The lyrics had poetry, not just rhyming random words that don’t make sense. Composers were briefed too and they too put in a lot of efforts. Watch the making of a songs on youtube and you will notice how much thought and effort they used to put in their songs.
Animal did just that and look how it boosted the film’s overall popularity and box office collection.
Bollywood needs to change the short-cut approach and go back to the basics, as art cannot be manufactured, only products are manufactured and they come with a shelf life.
