If the whole theatre is laughing from start to end, you know it’s a great film.
Acting
The Hero/Heroine of the plot is not Ayushmann/Pooja but ‘Acting’ itself. This is what happens when you get the best of actors and let them take control of the film. Obviously, the writing was there, but every single punch is delivered perfectly, every character holds it’s ground and they make every situation funny.
I believe it was one of Ayushmann’s greatest acting ever, if not ‘the greatest’. Kya adayein dikhayi hai bande ne, kya thumke mare hain, ladkiyo ko fail karde. After the film, I was wondering kya maza aya hoga shoot karne mein kitna hase honge.
Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa, Annu Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav and Ranjan Raj are hilarious. Paresh Rawal, Manoj Joshi and Asrani did not have any big punchlines but they were triggering points for situations to occur. Manjot Singh did not have big punches but various small punches and he played the Hero’s friend really well.
Abhishek Banerjee and ka kam role tha but accha tha. There is a big ‘Oooooooooooo’ moment in the film where the whole theatre should just laugh shout and clap at his dialogue. Ananya Panday was decent. Nothing great but nothing bad either.
Writing
Kudos to Raaj Shaandilya and Naresh Kathooria. Agar Hero Acting hai toh Supporting role mein writing hai. Everything has a purpose, every character is connected and every situation arises from the previous one. Paise ke liye ladki bana, aur paiso ke liye lady doctor, usse bhi zyada paiso ke liye shaadi kar li. Fir ate hain purane aashiq jinko shaadi ka nahi pata.
Pooja ke aashiq toh theek hain, Karam (Ayushmann) ki bhi aashiq ladkiyaan hain. Fir uska baap alag aashiq bana ghum raha hai. Aur shaadi hui hai toh bachcha bhi hoga. Lekin Pooja ka bachcha kaise ho sakta hai? Ek chota sa surprise cameo bhi hai. Kaafi acchi writing hai. Ek blank copy leke likhe baitho tab samajh ayega writing kise kehte hain. Good work team!
Songs
Aao bhai Villain pe ate hain. A Villain is a stopping force in a story jo Hero ko goal achieve karne se rokta hai. Gaane waise hi hain isme. Maza nahi ata yar. Memorable toh nahi hi hain lekin theatre mein bhi kuch maza nahi ata hai. Haan gaano mein kuch kuch ho raha hota hai, story aage badhti hai, that is a nice thing. But aur acche gaane hone chahiye the.
Direction
Raaj Shaandilya has proved that he is one of the best directors in comedy today in India. The punchlines or jokes are not taken from memes and sms/whatsapp jokes. Ki Haha dekho maine puchline mari. Dialogues rhyme kar kar ke comedy nahi hai. The comedy actually arises from the situation and the characters who cannot escape from their behaviors no matter where they are or what the situation is.
The marketing of this film was already on next level. So much creativity, so many ideas every month. Actor (Ananya Panday) ke father ko le aye, producer (Ekta Kapoor) ke father ko le aaye, Real Dream Girl (Hema Malini) ko le aye. Ek chota sa spoiler – interval ya intermission likha hua nahi aya, unhone likha “Pet POOJA Break”
I would want him to direct a big film like Hera Pheri 3, where the comedy is more situational and character-based. Lekin mere chahne se kya hota hai.
VFX ?
I’m not very sure if they had applied VFX on Pooja. There was a report when the film was delayed from June to August, which stated that the team needed more time as Ekta Kapoor had decided to use VFX on Ayushmann Khurrana’s face to make him look more feminine as Pooja. This was not the case in the first film. And honestly, it looked a little weird. Natural rehta part 1 jaisa, koi problem hi nahi thi.
Verdict
Itna sab padhne ke baad bhi verdict chahiye? Haan bhai pasand ayi. Bahaut maza aya. Stars main deta nahi, agar ye janna hai ki paise kharch karke, time aur effort dal ke theatre jana chahiye ya nahi.. toh ye kahunga ki – agar Dream Girl 1 pasand ayi thi, agar Dream Girl 2 ka trailer accha laga hai, toh pakka jao. And go while the theatres are full so that you enjoy more. Community experience matters.
