Day 1 Box Office Report – Clash of Stree 2, Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein

Advance Booking Toh Dhamakedar Thi Hi, Par Ye Toh Alag Hi Level Par Hai.

Last year, OMG 2 gave Gadar 2 tough competition at the box office. But this year, we have a clear winner: Stree 2. Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s biggest opening yet has surpassed collections of KGF Chapter 2,War, Animal, and Pathaan in the Hindi belts.

No one expected Stree 2 to earn this much on its first day. Previously, Chennai Express held the highest grossing record from paid previews, but Stree 2 has surpassed that. Now, Stree 2 stands at the 2nd position at the box office, with Jawan still on top. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa are underperforming. The long weekend still offers a chance for all three films.

Box Office Par Stree 2 Ka Tehelka, Cinemagharon Mein Sarkate Ka

The hype for this Horror Comedy was off the charts. Cinephiles love films like this with great comedy and excellent cameos. Director Amar Kaushik understood his assignment very Well. Audiences who missed the paid previews on August 14 definitely watched it in theaters on August 15. The Movie had roughly 78% occupancy on its first day, with Mumbai and Delhi recording the highest occupancy rates between 81-87%.

Stree 2 secured over 12,400 shows, with more than 8.2L tickets sold in advance for the first day, generating an advance gross of approximately ₹23.6 Cr.

Stree 2 recorded the highest number of footfalls post-pandemic.

VEDAA

The makers didn’t heavily market the film. On the other hand, Stree 2 was excelling in every department. Emmay Entertainment’s Vedaa, starring John Abraham and Sharvari in leading roles, struggled at the box office. Despite John Abraham’s return to his old form in this action film, the movie became predictable for everyone after watching the trailer and marketing snippets. Nikhil Advani Directorial was released in multiple languages but only worked in Hindi belts. The Film approximately sold 60,000 tickets in advance booking and collected a gross of ₹1.48 Cr from advance sales. Vedaa managed to secure 5,000+ shows for the first day.

This is John Abraham’s best opening since Satyameva Jayate (2018). Since he played a negative role in Pathaan, it is not included in this comparison. The opening day is better than Attack, Ek Villain Returns, Satyameva Jayate 2, and Mumbai Saga.

KHEL KHEL MEIN

Back-to-back flop films from Akshay Kumar and consecutive single-digit openings from a megastar like him have been disappointing. There was a time when Akshay Kumar ruled the box office with his great films and excellent script choices, but now his films aren’t performing well at the box office. In fact, Vedaa collected more than Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein.

Khel Khel Mein sold more than 47k tickets from advance booking, collecting a gross of ₹1.54 Cr from advances. Khel Khel Mein managed to secure 4,093 shows on the first day, but now the show count is decreasing as most of the shows are being allocated to Stree 2.
