Ramayana Trailer Overview
The Ramayana trailer is mostly great. I don’t understand the hate. Criticism is fine, I have a few points too. But aajkal jo mahol chal raha hai na, it’s too much low-IQ chatter where you can clearly observe that people enjoy being negative. Let’s get into it in detail.
Yash as Ravan
I think everyone can agree that Yash as Ravan was the biggest takeaway from the Ramayana trailer. The makers focused on him both in the movie and the trailer. He looks like a true tyrant king of the Asuras. He will not have more screen time than Ranbir in the film, but he will definitely have more action scenes in Part 1.
Trailer Cut
To be honest, the trailer cut was not good. We have discussed this a lot of times: what makes a trailer cut good or awesome. Not talking about the length, as story toh sabko pata hi hai, toh reveal kar diya wahi shikayat yaha nahi hogi.
But ek flow hota hai, ek emotion hota hai trailer ka, ek peak ata hai, audience ko ek high pe chhodta hai accha trailer. Wo nahi laga isme. Yash’s Ravan parts were very well used, but overall flow thanda laga. Felt more like a montage of shots, to show the world that look, we have done so much.
Please note that what you understand about the film from a trailer, such as how the film will be, is different from having a solid trailer. From the Ramayana trailer, we can see the film would be excellent, but did we really enjoy the trailer itself?
Maybe Sony asked for such a cut. Maybe they were more concerned about showing the scale to distributors across the world. Ho sakta hai business pov se kiya ho. I loved what I saw, but kuch toh missing feel hota hi hai.
Coming to Criticism
The VFX
Ab na 100% green screen se nafrat hone lagi hai. Yrf ka sabko pata hai kitna nakli lagta hai, Pathaan ke time se criticism chal raha hai. Adipurush mein bhi wahi dikkat thi, kisi bhi tarah ki lighting and all ka dhyan nahi rakha tha, even the fire, the ground, every single element was green screen.
Abhi Ramayan mein dikkat ye lag rahi hai kuch jagah VFX, CGI, bahaut accha hai aur kuch jagah bilkul nakli lag raha hai. The Ayodhya Palace looks good, while the forests look fake. Jatayu and Airavat look great, but the Asuras seem off. Fir hawan ki aag bhi VFX karni hai. Kyu bhai? Thoda thoda karke na ye sab mind ko distract karta hai.
The best VFX is when you shoot real and enhance with VFX-CGI. Puri film green-screen pe rahegi toh bahaut mushkil hai ki immersive experience ho. We are saying it’s “our history, our truth”.. so in such a case the world should not look like Narnia, right?
Still, we can hope for improvements till the release. Even if they don’t look very authentic, I can be sure that it will look amazing on the big screen. ,
The Rakshas
Kuch toh kaam kiya hai, look mein. That Asura in the forest, his look and color grading have improved. Ab dekhte hain Tadka aur baki sab ka kaisa rehta hai. Kumbhkarna was quite bad in the trailer. But maybe wo Ramayana Part 2 ka unfinished version ho, so time hai abhi. And why was Surpanakha riding a chariot with snow leopards in a tropical forest? Design-wise kaafi cheezein authentic nahi lagti.
Poslished Looks?
Ranbir as Ram looks great. Some people are criticising ki Yash ke samne thanda hai. Bhai scenes ki kaha dikhaye hain abhi. Have some trust in Ranbir. Saare soft scenes the, there is a high chance full context mein, film mein sahi hoga. Nahi hoga toh tab kar lenge criticise, right now we haven’t seen much.
But ek baat hai ki jaisa sundar Prince Ayodhya mein hai waisa jungle mein kaise hoga yar? I understand he is God, avatar of Vishnu, but please also understand Vishnu bhagwan had to incarnate as a human. A HUMAN. He had limitations, he had struggles, and that is the sole purpose of Ramayana. So thoda realistic skin, and all dikhate toh accha rehta, at least with the passage of time. I’m not saying lambi dadhi lambe baal wala look rakhte, lekin kuch toh karte..
Costumes
People saying costumes are not authentic? Bhai tum gaye the Treta Yug mein dekhne kya costume tha? Ya kuch preserved hai kahi? We are expecting a world full of big palaces, divine weapons, advanced technology (Pushpak Viman), but we can’t expect good fabric and beautiful jewellery? What nonsense is this? Ye thoda zyada nitpicking ho gaya.
Sai Pallavi
Bhai peeche hi pad gaye hain log, saying she is the wrong cast. Matlab tumhare beauty standards ke hisab se duniya chale? Ek taraf Maa Sita bolte ho, divine and respected, dusri taraf lustful baatein karte ho. Aise aise posts dekhe hain na maine online ki mann karta hai ek ek ki kambal pitai karu.
Chalo tumhe nahi bhi pasand. Itna kitna irritate ho gaye ki 2 saal se bole hi ja rahe ho, bole hi ja rahe ho? Ramayana Introduction video came out last year on 3 July, shoot started much before, and the news was out even before that. 2 saal se zyada ho gaya Sai Pallavi ko cast kiye. Change nahi ho sakta. Accept karna seekho.
The Scale
You gotta love the scale at which this film is being made. I’m talking both from the creative and business aspect.
Dekho budget bhul jao. Badi non-sense baat lagti hai jab log bas hit-flop ki baat karte hain, film pasand ayi ya nahi, uski nahi. Scale se mera matlab hai film mein kya kya karne wale hain. Wo Ramayana: Pratham Sankalp ke baad comic ki images ayi thi online yaad hai? Ramayan ke hisab se kitne saare characters hain. Films have shorter duration than series. Ye 2 part mein hai, still quite less duration if you look at the whole story.
Usme Ravan ki backstory aur uske clan ke kitne sare characters hain. Pushpak Viman ka design kitna accha hai. Sound pe dhyan diya? When it moves, it’s like mechanical/wooden parts are moving. Lanka and Ayodhya designs are so elaborate. Iss puri film ko theatre mein imagine karo, alag hi experience hoga.
Now coming to the business part, people don’t realize that Indian films do not have a big market outside. Yes, our films are seen, some actors are loved by foreigners, but still the scale is quite less, if. you compare how much Hollywood films are watched in India. Percentage-wise, population-wise. But this time, the scale of release is going to be bigger than anything we have seen till now. It will put India on the map in a big way. Atleast that is the plan.
Never Seen Before
I’m not against criticism, I criticise too. But just think of what I’m gonna say next.
When was the last time you saw a good, live-action Ramayana in theatres? Adipurush? Crap. That Indo-Japanese Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama? Animated. Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana? It was on TV. Humne theatre mein ek acchi Ramayana dekhi hi nahi. So aren’t you a little happy that we will witness something great? Maybe Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana will not be perfect. I fully agree with you, but still it will be something completely experiential.
Blind Hatred
Criticism and hatred are different things. Criticism comes from a point where you wanted something to be better, but you felt it was not. When the words are such that the receiver can take a feedback and maybe imrove upon it in future. Mera point humesha wahi hota hai, and jab wahi cheez acche se dikhti hai kisi film mein toh tareef bhi karta hu.
Lekin abhi jo maine online dekha wo mostly criticism nahi blind hatred tha. Kuch accounts to sirf troll kar rhe hain, criticise nahi. 10 post kiye hain sirf problems gina rahe hain, kuch toh bilkul hi illogical. Arre mana tumhe kuch kami lagi par 10 post bana diye? Aur positive point 1 bhi nahi? Ek bhi baat achci nahi lagi? Itna bura hai?
Ek toh ye low-IQ wale fans ka sabse zyada hath rehta hai duniya mein negativity faylane ke liye. Alag alag fanclubs apne apne actor ko alag alag characters mein fit karna chah rahe hain. Kuch toh bas reach ke liye kuch bhi bakwas post karte hain saal bhar. Yaad hai kuch log Adipurush ko defend kar rahe the uss time? Aur kitne saare bad actors, bad films hain, unko bhi defend karte hain log. Fans ke naam pe sabse ladne wale log.
Media bhi kam nahi hai, reach keliye kood padti hai isi mein. Kuch nahi toh neutral dikhne ke liye, “Netizens troll Ramayana” karke post dal denge aur screenshots laga denge. Reach toh unko bhi chahiye. Creative analysis koi nahi karta. Alpha ke time bhi bola tha maine kaise out of the way ja ke log troll kar rahe the. Ek bar ye shuru hota hai toh baki har vella aur bawakoof admi same kaam karne lagta hai aur unko maza ane lagta hai isme.
So you realize what kind of people have voices now, and we don’t need to listen to every voice out there.
The Correct Ramayana
I saw a reel yesterday; it was an excerpt from Mohit’s video, who runs a Comicverse YT and Flickverse YouTube channel. He was saying that everyone has a different Ramayana in their minds. Everyone has seen something, read something, and imagined something. Everyone’s level of devotion, understanding of cinema, and many other things are different. So there can’t be a single Ramayana which is perfect for Everyone. No matter who makes it and however they make it, somebody will have some problem with it. I thought about this for a while and realized he was right.
For any other film, it’s fiction, so it’s fine. But as soon as devotion comes into place, many things are debatable because even in our scriptures, there are different versions. Over time, there have been different depictions. So each individual thinks differently, and they have different viewpoints. I think slowly we are moving to a place where almost everything will be debated, trolled, hated upon, loved, worshipped, all at the same time, by different sections of people.
Where is Hanuman Ji ?
I don’t know how many of you know this (post toh kiya tha, dekhte nahi log), so I’ll say it again. Ramayana Part 1 ends with Sita Haran. Ram ji meets Hanuman ji after this point. They were living in Chitrakoot forest, which is near UP/MP and Hanuman ji lives in Kishkindha, which is ruled by Sugreev, near Karnataka.
I don’t know at which point the film will end, but I feel Ram and Laxman just enter Kishkindha and Hanuman ji is shown in a glimpse. They two meet, and the film ends.
Part 2 will have – Bali/Vali Vadh, Lanka Dahan, Ram Setu Nirman, Final Battle, and maybe return journey.
Brahma AI
Maine suna tha Prime Focus is developing a tech called Brahma AI, which can dub any scene in any language with perfect lip sync. For example, Ranbir ne Hindi mein scene shoot kiya hai. Abhi jab dubbing karte hain toh video same rehta hai, audio change ho jati hai. Lekin lip sync nahi hota obviously. Brahma AI aise kaam karega ki aisa lagega ki Tamil version mein Ranbir aur baki sab Tamil mein hi baat kar rahe hain. And this will not look fake, like many AI videos today look don’t look authentic while speaking.
Ab suna tha aisa. Isliye maine 1-2 language ke version dekhe. Abhi toh use nahi kiya hai inhone ye tech. Let’s see.
Final Thoughts
Criticism apni jagah par main bahaut excited hu iss film ke liye. I really hope this film gets recognised all over the globe.
