Gadar 2 – U/A Certificate, 10 Cuts and Several Modifications

11th August is a special day as two big sequels are clashing at the box office. Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ and Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’. While ‘OMG 2’ has been passed with ‘A’ certificate, ‘Gadar 2’ has been certified ‘U/A’ by the CBFC.

Another difference between the two is that the former was passed with zero cuts and about 27 modifications, the latter has been asked for 10 cuts and a few modifications. While the details cuts are not known, here is the list of a few modifications asked by the CFBC –

1. The word ‘Bastard’ has been replaced with ‘Idiot’.
   
2. ‘Defence Minister’ has been changed to ‘Raksha Mantri’ 
   
3. The word ‘Tirange’ has been changed to ‘Jhande’ 
   
4. The line in the thumri song ‘Bata De Sakhi’ has been replaced by ‘Bata De Piya Kahaan Bitaayi Shaam’.
   
5. There was a scene in which rioters were shown chanting “Har Har Mahadev” and Shiv Tandav Shlokas. They are replaced by using a different line and generic music.
   
6. “Dono ek hi toh hai. Baba Nanak ne bhi yahi kaha hai” (with reference to Quran and Bhagavad Gita) has been replaced with “Ek noor te sab jag upaje. Baba Nanak ne bhi yahi kaha hai”
   

The scenes referring to religious sentiments have been chopped off.

Furthermore, the filmmakers were required to provide documentary evidence for all the statistics and references related to the 1971 India-Pakistan war. They also submitted translations of the shlokas and mantras used in the movie.

After implementing these changes, ‘Gadar 2’ received a U/A certificate from the CBFC. The final duration of the film is of 170 minutes, equivalent to 2 hours and 50 minutes.

11th August 2023 will be seeing a 4-way clash at the Box office. We have two Hindi films, ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘OMG 2’, then we have Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ (Tamil), which is releasing a day early, 10th August. And finally Chiranjeevi’s ‘Bhola Shankar’ (Telugu). On digital we are also getting Alia bhatt and Gal Gadot starrer ‘Heart of Stone’ on Netflix, on the same day.

Gadar 2 stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma, who will continue their characters from the first part. Manish Wadhwa and Simrat Kaun are the new additions in the film among others.
