Haiwaan Trailer Overview
I’ll be very honest, it’s rare that a trailer makes me excited to watch a movie. Yes, I watch trailers, I review them, I discuss the good and bad points, but liking a trailer is different from being excited to watch a film.
I’m not a kid anymore. I don’t worship any star. I’ve watched over 2500 movies, and I do watch around 100-150 movies per year. So it’s hard to impress me now. And as we know, most films coming out now are below average. Average nikal jaye toh lagta hai chalo utna bura nahi tha. That’s the benchmark now. So aise mein ek trailer itna interesting lag jaye ki film dekhne ka mann ho, ye kam ho hota hai. Recently aisa mere sath hua hai Toxic, Mirzapur and Haiwaan ke liye.
I know, ab tum bologe ki rare hota hai bol ke 3 back-to-back releases ka naam le liya. Well, ye bhi rare hi hua hai. Hota nahi aisa. 2026 ki baat karu toh 1 hi aisa trailer nahi mila iss pehle jo ye feel jaga de. Dhurandhar The Revenge bhi nahi, kyuki excitement toh Part 1 ki wajah se thi hi, pata hi tha dekhni hi hai, and trailer bhi action action tha bas. Toh aisa nahi tha ki trailer dekhne ke baad feeling change hui. Trailer nahi bhi ata toh bhi wo bhi dekhi hi thi.
Trailer Cut
Well, upar wale paragraph se pata chal hi gaya hoga ki I like the trailer cut. Loved the start and end. Starting mein ho shayad kisi victim ko mock kar raha hai, acting kar raha hai ki, ‘mujhe bacha lo wo mujhe maar dega.’ End mein Saif ki acting kar rha hai andha hone ki.
Accha trailer dekhne aur details pehchanne se samajh ata hai ki ek editor ne mehnat ki hai ya nahi. Every editor has the whole film with them, what they choose to show and how they choose to show it makes all the difference.
Non-linear trailer cuts that do not reveal the full plot beat by beat, are the best trailer cuts. Use of music everyone does. But cutting on beats, using sound effects to amplify the emotion of a scene, using sound to cut the frame – all these add a lot of value to the experience.
One little observation. Towards the end, we see someone trying to open the door. The handle makes a repeated noise, and on that noise the Haiwaan title blinks, before becoming stationary. Now that’s a choice, a deliberate creative choice.
Akshay Kumar
Bhai kya lag raha hai yaar. I’m not saying the looks and stuff. Wo bacche baat karte hain. I mean the character. Super harami lag rha hai. Doing justice to the Haiwaan title. Cold-blooded killings toh kar hi raha hai, par isko maza bhi aa raha hai. Mazak uda raha hai victims ka. Such a cruel sadist character.
Maybe we’ll get to see the old Akki acting skills here. Did not like the last few ones, even though they were hits. He tried but forceful hai dikh raha hai. Earlier he was so natural. Haiwaan mein wo natural acting dikh rahi hai.
Saif Ali Khan
Saif has always been a good actor. Real movie lovers know this. He takes bold choices, gives his best, it’s just that his films don’t work well at the box office. It’s the case with a lot of actors, but it does not make their talent any less.
I can’t pinpoint exact scenes, but it feels like we will be getting an awesome performance from him as well. Obviously, Akshay will overshadow him because of how the character is written, but still I feel Saif will be holding his ground well.
Other Characters
So Saiyami Kher is a cop, Shriya Pilgaonkar is Saif’s wife, and Boman Irani is maybe playing a doctor, a family friend, or something like that. We can see him in multiple shots, that means maybe he is not a victim of Haiwaan.
Rajesh Sharma and Sharib Hashmi are also there. We don’t know their roles. Accha hi hai. Sab nahi janna hota pehle se.
Remake Factor
Haiwaan is a Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Oppam, which is based on Martin Scorsese’s Cape Fear (1991), which was a remake of the 1962 film, based on the 1957 novel The Executioners by John D MacDonald.
So yes, Haiwaan is a remake of Oppam, but I haven’t watched the original, so I don’t know the plot. I’m not getting into the ‘why remake’ debate. Ab jo hai wo hai. Priyadarshan has said he makes remakes but changes a lot of things, just the core of the story remains the same. He has directed over 40 movies which are remakes. But he knows how to do it, meaning it does not feel like you are watching the same film again, where scene-by-scene it’s the same thing done by another actor.

Plot We Know
So Akshay Kumar is a killer who not only kills the victim but their families too. Saiyami Kher is a police officer on the case, but we don’t know if she is gonna do anything coz we can see Saif struggling alone all along.
At one point Saif says, “Apne badle ki aag mei aur kitne masoomo ki jaan loge tum?” This means Akshay has a reason for the killings. Backstory, sad story of the villain loading. Akshay replies, “Ye aakhri hai,” and laughs. Shows that though his motives have a reason, he has gone mad.
One confusion: either the last victim is Saif and his family, or Saif is somehow trying to save another victim. Maybe Boman Irani is a victim? Akshay threatens Boman Irani in one shot.
Why was Saif in jail? Wo ek point aur samajh nahi aya. Basically, I liked how they showed the trailer, they keep you guessing.
One Criticism
While the length was apt, I still feel they showed a lot of shots in montages. Check the trailer again. Wo acchi baat hai kuch samajh nahi aya, par kuch zyada hi shots dikha diye. A lot of locations, who is bleending in what loacation, ye sab notice ho jata hai. Fir movie dekhte hue un kapdo mein dekhte hi samajh aa jata hai ab wo wala scene ayega. Thoda kam karte toh accha rehta.
Cameo
Maohanlal, who was in the original film Oppam will have cameo in the film. Ajkal sab kuch hi reveal kar dete hain. Kya hi bolein.
Par maine Youtube ke description mein dekha cast mein Rajpal Yadav aur Manoj Joshi bhi hain. Ye reveal nahi kiya hai. Ab dekho kitna bada role hota hai inka. I’m guessing cameo hi hoga. Non-comedy roles for both.
Final Thoughts
Acchi lag rahi hai film. I’m excited. Chalegi ya nahi chalegi I don’t know. Audience is unpredictible. September has so many releases, pata nahi lag kya dekhenge kya nahi.
