Team SuperSonics Or Team Misfits?
When the trailer of the Hai Junoon was released, I thought it would be different from other OTT dance shows like Campus Beats or others. And after watching all 20 episodes, here are my opinions. After COVID, I have watched a 20-episodic series for the first time. And I was loving the show episode by episode. But everything can’t be perfect—this has flaws too.
This isn’t going to be a long review like the web series. No one is telling the positives of the show, that’s why OCD Times is here to tell you everything about this show in detail.
See, first of all—it’s not a crime thriller drama show, it’s a very basic show but still watchable and loveable. Hai Junoon follows a basic storyline of 3 friends: Sebi played by Sumedh, Shona by Santana Roach, and Kush played by Priyank Sharma.
They all want to create a legacy of dance in Andersons College, but Andersons already has a legacy of music with Supersonics, which was created by Iyer Sir, played by Boman Irani. And to uplift that legacy, Gagan Ahuja, played by Neil Nitin, comes and takes over Supersonics and becomes their mentor and guide along with Charu (Iyer Sir’s daughter).
In between, the dance group formed by the 3 friends comes in and they challenge Supersonics. So it’s basically Misfits (Dance Group) vs Supersonics (The Music Group).
The concept looks unique, right? There are too many stories going on in the series—everyone is living a different life, everyone has their own perspective. But was the show worth watching?
Positives
There are some newcomers in the show , I’m talking about new actors—and they all did quite well. But the main positives are the stories of this show. The bond between mother and son, the bond between father and daughter, Gen Z breakups and relationships, the reality of society, how underprivileged students survive in privileged spaces—all of this was shown in a very detailed way. And most importantly, this show also covers the topic of depression, which was portrayed so, so beautifully. I actually cried during the 14th episode.
Most importantly, this show also teaches some real-life lessons—it teaches us about friendship, and the true value of friendship. The character I loved the most in this show was Kush, portrayed by Priyank. His character was literally written in depth. I haven’t seen such a positive character in a web series in such a long time.
Acting
Sumedh — Man, you are great. He is literally a good actor and deserves so much more. The way he was portrayed was so good. I’ve been following his journey since DID 3 to Escaype Live. In Escaype, he had a really crazy transformation in his character. Do watch that show if you haven’t seen it. Sumedh Mudgalkar was totally a powerful package in this show.
Gagan Ahuja played by Neil Nitin Mukesh — After a long time, saw Neil Nitin Mukesh in a positive role. Sometimes he came across as negative, but his dialogues were really powerful. He was also fantastic in the show.Fun fact: Neil Nitin Mukesh was also a part of New York. In that film, there was a song “Hai Junoon,” which is still on everyone’s playlist—and now he did a series called “Hai Junoon.”
Pearl played by Jacqueline Fernandez — Jacqueline was also good throughout the whole show. Her character deals with anger issues and teaches how to handle and avoid anger.
Bikram played by Siddharth Nigam — His character tells a journey—a journey of dreams but everything comes at a cost and everything has its own consequences. He tells in his own way that you can achieve your dreams. He is a dancer, but in this show, he was part of the music gang, and he did a great job. I love seeing that new actors are taking up different types of roles.
Kush played by Priyank Sharma — He’s such a fab dancer and a good actor. Why isn’t he getting more chances in the industry? Maybe because he isn’t a star kid. His character was literally the best.
Starcast
The starcast of this show is very big. Everyone did quite well like Boman Irani, Yukti Thareja, Santana Roach, Elisha Mayor, Amar Kunwar — saw him after such a long time, Bhavin Bhanushali, Anusha Mani, Aryan Katoch, Devangshi Sen, Arnav Magoo, and others. See, I told you the starcast is very big
Music
The modern remixes with old songs were fantastic. All songs except 2-3 were outstanding. You can listen to these remixes anytime, but I know original is original, so yes, this show has some original songs too. This is easily the biggest album of this year till now because this show has a total of 40 songs. So now you don’t wonder why this show has 20 episodes. the music was the highlight of this show, Jeena Yaha Marna Yaha , Lekar Hum Deewana Dil , Ek Main Aur Ek Tu Hai and other remixes , Original Song Like Yaariyan. all were fantastic
Negatives
Sometimes the show really felt stretched. It follows the same template which every dance and music show follows. They just changed it into a faceoff, and some moments were cringe. Some songs were unnecessary. See, everything comes with negatives and positives, but there are some things which normal college students do—here they are just dancing and singing, no one was studying in the college. They took the Student of the Year way again here.
Verdict

The story could be better. The show lost its grip after the 15th episode. It’s a decent watch if you don’t have anything else to watch. The cast did justice to the story and dance. If they can have real dancers, why not real singers? My complaint is, why did they have to add actors who were just lip syncing, and that too not properly for some actors? That’s why I find the rating of 3/5 decent for Hai Junoon. You can watch this show with your family—there are just references, some kiss scenes, and a little bit of abusive language. If your family is okay with that, then watch it..
