“Maalik Paida Nahi Hue Toh Kya, Ban Toh Sakte Hain“

The Cut
Template-based trailer. They revealed everything. How the film starts, how it will progress, and how it ends.
The art of trailer cutting is dead. 2:45 minute duration was not needed. Even if you do that, the style of making a trailer, the way you excite the audience, should be new. Sabne ab hazaro films and series dekhi hui hain. Koi easily excite nahi hota. Social media numbers sabko mil jate hain ticket sales nahi hoti. So why are studios not changing the approach?
The Good
Rajkummar Rao looks too good in and as Maalik. Negative shades mein dekha hai, but is level ka nahi. He gives you the feel of a gunda from Uttar Pradesh.
The background music, especially the Maalik theme, elevates the feel of the trailer.
Now I’m gonna get into the plot of Mallik, step by step as they have shown in the trailer.
Underdog Opening – Mazboor baap ka beta, bahaut kuch saha hoga, then one day he flips, kills someone publicly, and establishes dominance. Wo kehte hain na, Bhaukaal.
The progress – Har film mein hota hai ye. Gunda ho, businessman ho, sports film ho. Ek bar apna hero ya anti-hero establish ho jata hai toh ek ke baad ek bada kaam karta hai, matches jeet ta hai, aur hero ka rise dikhate hain. Wahi karta hai Maalik bhi aur naam kamate kamate politician se milta hai.
The obvious pyaar mohabbat – Mandatory love story, ek romantic gaana jo narrative rok dega kyuki music rights bhi bechne hain. Shaadi ho jati hai iss movie mein. Thoda pati patni ka nok jhok. Aur baad mein ek item song bhi. Kyuki.. you know na.. music rights bhi bechne hain.
Level Up – Politics join karne ka offer milta hai. Lekin immediately nahi, politician pehle usse gundo wale kaam aur karwata hai. He grows too big, thinks he is invincible, and can do anything.
Enter the cop – Gunda gardi karte karte koi toh piss off hota hai aur ek naye inspector ko bulaya jata hai to take care of the Gunda. Yaar ek baat batao, abhi toh 3 machine pehle Prosenjit Chatterjee ko same role mein dekha tha Khakee: The Bengal Chapter mein.
The wife angle – The cop either tries to talk to the wife to help him or threatens her. Wahi ki biwi samjha degi maybe.
Also, while the gunda thinks he is invincible, one of his loved ones dies. Either his family member or friend or wife/lover. I think baap ya biwi mein se koi marega iss scene mein. More bet on Manushi.
Politician flips – gunda apni power mein kahi kuch aisa karta hai ki politician ko problem hoti hai. Politician usko aram se bolta hai lekin ghamand mein gunda dushmani kar leta hai. Now the politician asks the police to kill him. And it becomes full-blown war.
Politician se badla 1 – He then attacks the politician’s house with full force.
Politician se badla 2 – iss scene mein Maalik, Saurabh Shukla ko maar dega. Politician mara hai toh police aur peeche padegi.
Final fight – puri film mein goliyaan chali hain, lekin final fight hand to hand combat hi hoga.
The End ? – Kaafi bar anti-hero ko end mein maar dete hain for being morally on the good side, to show crime does not pay. For example, Raees, Vaastav, Don (Amitabh Bachchan). Aur kayi bar anti-hero ko zinda rakhte hain in a hope for a sequel Animal, Don (Srk). Let’s see Mallik mein kya dikhate hain.
Question to audience – how many times have you seen variations of the same plot? Slight variations ke sath wahi cheez? Maalik mein thoda kam zyada ho sakta hai jo bhi maine upar kaha lekin kuch 80% toh same hi hona hai, trailer mein saaf dikha diya. Fir wahi fill in the blanks aur climax ke liye jayenge theatre?
Film ek taraf, marketing strategy aur trailer cut toh alag tareeke se kar sakte hain na? 3 way clash hone wala hai with Superman and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. Pichle hafte ka Metro In Dino and Jurassic World Rebirth bhi hoga kuch screens mein. Wo dekhte hue toh kuch special karna chahiye apni film chalane ke liye?
