Tiger 3 Review – Minted Money But What About Quality?

Let’s go beyond the collections and comparisons. Let’s dive deep into what works and what does not. Warning – this will be full of spoilers. Avoid reading if you haven’t watched it yet. Dekh aao fir padhna. Aur jo dekh chuke hain, wo review padhein Leke Prabhu Ka Naam!

The Opening of Tiger 3

The prologue and the introduction of Tiger was the perfect way to start the film, both in terms of writing and catering to the audience. Tiger fights with his scarf on, the camera was not on his face and I guessed right there that he will remove his scarf, they will show his face and BGM will kick in. And that’s exactly with happened. I think all of you got this. Itni films dekh li hain itna toh pata chal hi jata hai, haina?

After the prologue, showing Gopi hits the nostalgia again. The consequent bike chase sequence was really well executed. There were high angles, low angles, bird eye view shots and moving shots with the drone. Well staged and edited. The final jump on the helicopter is the one thing that is very over the top, but you let it go because it looks so cool. No complains there. But the next shot they show him hanging and flying off jaise roz ka kaam hai. Ab ye zyada ho jata hai. Iss film mein aisa bahaut hua hai. Isko aage discuss karenge.

Tiger 3

Salman Khan as Tiger

When Bhaijaan plays Tiger, he brings the best both for himself and the character. You can see from Ek Tha Tiger itself that he is fully dedicated when he plays the character, whether it is the emotional side, the funny side or the deadly side of Avinash/Tiger.

After Tiger Zinda Hai, this is the first film I liked where I could see the Salman I love. Action and dialogues were done well, no doubt. But I’ll talk about the emotional parts which I truly liked. first is the Ruaan song where he is keeping a watch on Zoya. The emotions portrayed by Salman in those scenes hit the right spot. There is love for Zoya, fear of losing her is that is true, need to find the truth because of his nature as an agent, and a hope that he is wrong. The song and the sequence are done perfectly. It also works because we know relation of Tiger & Zoya, and we know what is at stake.

Second scene I’ll talk in the next section. The third part is where Aatish kills Abrar and is about to execute Karan. Salman is broken down and crying. Karan was not called for the mission, he was not sent by RAW. They did not see eye to eye in the last film, yet he chose to come for Tiger because he believed in him and now he was dying because of Tiger. On top of that he could hear his voice, his last breaths on com. It was heart wrenching. Int he next shot the way he hugs Rakeshji. This proves that Bhai can act, it’s just that he chooses the wrong scripts and directors.

My Most Favourite Scene

Well, I have not seen one person talk about this, either audience members or the reviewers. When Tiger saves the asset from Zoya in Russia and then chases her down to an underground tunnel, they indulge in a hand-to-hand combat. A very slow melodic version of Ruaan tune plays in the background. I was with the characters, with the story and knew what was at stake. Tiger reveals himself and he just has one choice as an agent. This scene was pure gold for me. The only thing I did not like is that when Tiger was in tears, they showed him from a side angle. I wanted a front close-up. What most people do not talk about, is that Salman expresses really well through his eyes. I wanted to see that but I guess they did not have space to put the camera or had a time crunch to have another close up angle. Whatever, the emotional factor, smooth action and soft music made me fall in love with the scene.

Katrina Kaif as Zoya

Zoya is hand-down the most badass female character in the Spy Universe from the beginning. And Katrina Kaif portrays that with ease. She does a lot of action scenes herself so that also adds to the overall feel as there are not a lot of cutaways and face replacements to cover for the stunt double.

The Hamam Fight

Loved it. Absolutely well executed and easily one of the highlights of the film. Not just because it was steamy and sexy but also because the scene was actually about the fight and not the hotness. Obviously the opponent was much bigger and trained fighter than Zoya and hence they did not show Zoya beat her easily. She took quite a few hits and struggled before finally knocking her out by banging her head on the floor, followed by a kick to the face. Only that I felt it was short. Thodi aur lambi fight honi thi.

ShahRukh – Salman

Music ane se pehle, pani peete waqt jab light Tiger ko pareshan karti hai, tabhi main samajh gaya tha morse code. Then light par hi pan kar dete hain Pathaan ka BGM sunai deta hai. Aah kya feel thi. I love Srk-Salman together. Bigg Boss ho, award fuctions ho ya koi aur show, they are full of fun and respectful towards each other. That is why I hate this stupid fan-wars. The action was a waste, aage baat karte hain, but dono ki dosti and equation was very entertaining.

Helicopter hai, humara hai? Nahi unka hai. Side car, last time jab baithe ek marr gaya tha, wo bhi chalane wala. Bhaag Tiger Bhaag, iss bar ulta kar diya. Pathaan movie cameo ka bhi mention kiya, ki last time ye wo. Dimag vs action, dupatta, ye sab kaafi mast tha. Dosto ke beech ki kheecha-taani. Last mein Tiger kehta hai tere baal hawa mein udte hue acche lagte hain and the flyign kiss by Pathaan. Ye sab accha tha. But the action was bad, like really bad.

Action Set Pieces

Dekho har bar physics and all nahi bolenge. Thoda bahaut hum jane dete hain, bas scene accha lage toh. Par ek point aa jata hai jab lagta hai yar ab hadd ho gayi. There was too much flying and jumping and hanging via ropes. Hanging theek hai but yar aap aise swing kar rahe ho jaise spiderman ho. Jumps aisi ho rahi hain jaise jaise legs mein superhero strength ho. You can feel there is wire-work involved when they hang or swing.

Sequencing bahaut sahi thi, jabki yaha kuch bhi ho raha tha.

It was reported that Aditya Chopra wrote this scene himself. Waha comedy work kar gayi toh yaha bhi dal dete hain. Lekin action ko halke mein le liya. Agar Pathaan cable cart se ane wala tha, jo light se signal kaise bheja? Wo smoke bomb aur speaker kaise feka? Pathaan was on parachute but Tiger jumped in water? Kuch zyada height nahi ho gayi agar parachute itna upar that ki Pathaan nikal liya toh? Thoda toh location, distance etc ka khayal rakhna chahiye. Thoda bahaut hum jane dete hain par aap bilkul hi kuch bhi nahi dikha sakte. Bilkul wo feel nahi ayi, jabki same actors and characters the.

Hand-To-Hand Combats

That is why I loved the close combats because they were close to reality. Whether it was fist fights, using hand guns or shotguns, close range mein execution bahaut smooth thi. Really loved these more than wide angle big action set pieces.

Writing And Direction

Both of these were a mix of good and bad. Action entertainer ki jagah revenge drama aur geo-political issue zyada ban gaya. While these elements have been part of action films since always and there is no problem in that, but here the screenplay just not works.

There was no interval block or high point at which the interval happens. In Pathaan, they have a heist, then Deepika betrays Pathaan and he gets captured. In Brahmastra, there is a big chase sequence leading up to the ‘Swayam hi tu agni’ moment. In Tiger Zinda Hai, Raw and ISI unites, there is a hugh banner of Abu Usman, Tiger is looking at it and Zoya comes from behind – freeze frame. A wallpaper worthy frame and high point in story.

Here neither the heist was a big challenge, nor the stakes were high. Tiger being chased by police was okayish and him getting arrested, well we already knew that from the promos and leaks. High point kaha tha? We are living in a time when big interval blocks are needed for such highly anticipated films.

Towards the end too, there was too much happening in the PM Palace, stakes high feel nahi ho rahe. Theek hai kaafi sara action hai, kaafi characters marr jate hain, lekin tension building nahi kar pate stakes nahi badha pate jaise TZH and War mein bhi kiya tha. Pathaan mein bhi yahi problem thi.

Pakistan Prem

One of the things that people have pointed out was too much love for Pakistan int he film. I personally don’t have any problem with whatever the writer-director-producer want to show as long as they show it well. Zoya is a Pakistani and it all started from there. ETT was well execute. In TZH, they integrated this thing really well. So I thought okay, this will be a recurring theme. And with the promos also it was evident that it will be in Tiger 3 as well.

But the end is revolving too much around Pakistan, the sasural-damad references, the pakistanis playing the Indian National Anthem, PM saying Pakistani se Pakistan ki azadi ko khatra tha aur ek Indian beech aa khada hua. Ye sab kuch zyada hi dramatic tha, force kar rahe the the ki dekho dekho we stand for peace. Tiger Zinda Hai aur Main Hoon Na mein bhi tha. Gadar mein bhi tha. In general hatred ke against the lekin wo sab organic way se dikhaya gaya tha.

Emraan as Aatish Rehman

Emraan is a great actor and I feel he was wasted. The writing did not do him justice. Gadar 2 jaise laga, army man personal loss ki wajah se pagal ho gaya aur hero ke against apne dil mein nafrat pal li bas. His reasons were fine to hate Tiger-Zoya, but what he wanted in the end the his means were not highlighted well. Depth nahi thi. Ya toh end goal chhupa ke rakhte ki whats his play whats his play, and baad mein batate ki usko PM banna hai.

A villain you dont know what he will do is more exciting and dangerous. Remember joker in dark knight also did something similar. Batman lost all credibility, corrupted Harvey Dent and even though he was captured Batman lost and went into hiding. Plot mein bahaut kuch khel sakte the stakes badha sakte the.

Aura Of A Villain

Villain ata hai toh dehshat honi chahiye. Jitna khatarnak villain utna maza. Aatish khatarnak tha, I liked his BGM too, but wo fear translate nahi hua. Remember Jim jab bhi screen pe ata tha? Kaafi logon ne usko Pathaan se bhi better bola, he was that good. Remember Abu Usman? Physical fight nahi ki lekin dehshat feel hoti thi. Rizwan Ilyasi in War. Pareshan kar rakha tha Kabir ko. And then the twist, Khalid turns out to be the pyada. Tiger Shroff actually pulled that part really well.

Rolex ke naam se hi sab darte the aur fir jab aya toh aap sabko pata hi hai kya hua. You can defend the makers all you want but I feel if the film in TIGER 3 and it is part of the SPY UNIVERSE, aapko ek ek second acche se plan karna chahiye. Waise same problem MCU mein bhi chal rahi hai.

Tiger Khatam?

As per story, I fell Tiger is useless as an agent. Chalo useless word nahi bolte but aap aaspass ka meaning pakad lo. Secret identity toh rahi nahi. India, Pakistan, Turkey, ab bachcha bachcha pehchanta hai. So obviously har country ki secret agencies bhi jaanti hain. Pakistan ki PM asli naam (Avinash) bhi janti hai. Disguise use kar sakta hai but you know what i’m trying to say.. wo secret agent ka secret nahi raha kuch bhi. Bahaut easily flag hoga.

Comparison with Pathaan

I will place both Pathaan and Tiger 3 equally and at the bottom of the Spy Universe. Both had a lot of flaws. Keeping in mind the filmmaking aspects and entertainment factor, my personal rating is Tiger Zinda Hai > Ek Tha Tiger > War > Pathaan and Tiger 3, with the only difference that Pathaan had more entertainment factor while Tiger 3 had better writing due to being the third in instalment.

Sab Marr Gaye – Wasted Cameos

Abrar and Javed dead. Karan dead. Angad Bedi ko toh dikhaya hi nahi, there was new guy as the bomb expert. Haan wo bach gaya. Hassan dead. Aur bilkul faltu death thi koi meaning nahi tha. Granades toh waise bhi fek deta toh kaam ho jata. Itne se role ke liye Vishal Jethwa ko liya. Ek follower ne bola, ‘Bhai Junior bhi toh bada hua, uski shakal toh nahi badli, Hassan ki puri badal gayi?’ Ye khayal kis kis ko aya?

Post Credit – Hrithik as Kabir

I’m definitely gonna get abused for this. But Hrithik’s cameo was forced and felt it was out of a tv serial. Okay hear me out. The look and feel was nice. Some said it reminded them of an anime, some said from Devil May Cry. I personally felt like Ronin from Avengers Endgame. But his is not the problem. The presentation was good. I too like Hrithik and Kabir and the BGM. I was smiling, I was happy. My problem is the writing. What Ashutosh Rana was saying.

“Jo main mangne ja raha hu wo mangne ka haq se senior ko apne agent se nahi hai na hi ek baap ko ek bete se hai”

Chalo okay..

“India ka ek naya dushman hai. Ye dushman itna vehshi aur khatarnak hai ki hum soch bhi nahi sakte”

Kaunsa Raw office baat karta hai aise? Kisi fantasy film ka dialogue lagta hai ye.

“Na toh iska koi naam hai aur na hi chehra. “Wo andhere mein rehta hai, aur uske rokne ke liye tumhe bhi usi andhere mein utarna hoga.”

Suna hai ye scene Ayan ne direct kiya hai. Brahmastra mode mein likh diya kya dialogue? Aise dialogues mat likh dena film mein. Brahmastra aur War 2 ka genre alag hai.

Something something.. fir “Kyunki aisa na ho Kabir, Shaitan se ladte ladte tum khud Shaitan ban jao!”

Kis bat ki demonic vibes de rahe ho? I got the point, itni films dekhi hain samajh ata hai, lekin iss tarah ka dialogue and presentation samajh nahi aya jo genre se bilkul off ja raha hai. Ramayan ka Vaali hai kya ki demon ko hunt karne gufa mein jayega lekin fir wapas ayega toh he will not be the same? Forced last minute cameo, bad writing. I don’t understand how people people are praising this. Just becasue of Hrithik/Kabir? I love him too but kuch bhi nahi sakte ho uske liye.

Verdict

People are asking theatre jau ya ott ka wait karu. Yar Tiger franchise ke fan ho, Spy Universe ke fan ho toh theatre watch banta hai. Film mere liye toh underwhelming thi lekin kuch acche scenes aur story hai. So ek theatre watch banta hai sabke sath milke. Stars nhi deta main lekin ye film bahaut se logon ke liye disappointing hai, aur uska reason hai ye ki inhone khud itni acchi films banai hain toh hum kuch bhi kam kaise accpet kar lenge.

  1. Look for spy universe and other action entertainer films ,I always say director matter. Kabir Khan is usually know for his storytelling in thriller genre and he excelled in ek tha tiger .Although tiger Zinda hai was above average film , but ali Abbas saved that film because of action and characterisation.

But agree or not but Maneesh Sharma and Aditya Chopra wasted this film . No character depth,no connection from audience even they tried to build high stakes but failed and yes as you mentioned, they wasted Emraan’s character.

I mean this is not the problem with bollywood but with South Indian industry, why we as an Indian cinema can’t utilise our villains. Take recent example of Leo ,how they wasted Sanjay dutts and Arjun sarjas character.

And after the end credit scene I am scared of Ayan Mukerji and war 2. Please yrf don’t spoil that film or bring back Kabir, ali Abbas aur Siddharth .
