Brahmastra Part 2 : Dev – Decoding the new Concept Arts by Ayan Mukerji

On 9th of September, our fantastic director Ayan Mukerji shared 3 fantastic concept arts of Brahmastra Part 2: Dev from his fantasy series Astraverse, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh (or someone else). Now, let’s break them down and discuss some theories and possibilities.

Concept Art 1: Who is the Villain ?

In the 1st still, the fierce Dev is climbing the stairs of a temple/monestry/fort on top of a mountain, riding on a black horse with his signature trident raging towards a demon form, surrounded by lightning from the top and within the base.

  1. As Guruji (Amitabh) had mentioned only one battle – Amrita vs Dev, this cannot be a battle from the past. Most likely, this may be a battle from the third movie. Something big is coming, a Thanos level threat maybe.
  2. The demon supposedly is a protector of Brahmastra from the past, and Dev is the villain who defeats him and steals the Brahmastra for himself. This is probably a flashback sequence when Raghu (Guruji) explains Shiva the past of his father. A battle he did not mention earlier.

Concept Art 2: Dev vs Amrita or Dev and Amrita?

In the 2nd frame, we see Dev and Amrita in front of a palace. Dev is entering a palace/fort surrounded by lightning. Amrita is seen behind him, riding on high waves.

  1. The first thing that comes to mind is the battle of Dev and Amrita as narrated by Raghu (Guruji) in the first film. This scene can possibly come at a time when Dev is moving towards conquering the Brahmastra and Amrita is hell bent on stopping him as she knows the havoc that will be brought upon the world if anyone wields the power of Brahmastra, even her lover. As legend has it, Brahmastra is not meant to be used by anyone.
  2. The second theory is that this is not a Dev vs Amrita battle but a Dev-Amrita team up. Look closely. They are not facing each other. It looks like they are entering the compound together. If we combine the first two concept arts, maybe there was a time when they had a great battle against a common enemy. They defeated that demon from the first concept art together.

Concept Art 3: Dev vs Shiva

In the final art, we see the famous Father – Son duel in present time which would probably make the best and the most memorable scene of the film. In the scene, Shiva crafts several weapons out of his Agni and uses them to go against Dev.

We know that there will be a point where Dev and Shiva will fight. Dev is properly clothed here, as oppose to the bare body we saw in part one. Look a bit like Jafar from Aladdin due to the robe, color scheme and staff.

Shiva on the other hand, is in his regular clothes. But this time it seems he has mastered his powers. Not just one or two, he is able to create dozens of different weapons from fire, along with a burning flame around his body and fist. This is gonna be one epic battle.

Other Predictions

It is not difficult to imagine that Brahmasta Part 2: Dev, will be showing us two timelines. One is the past, where we will witness Dev and Amrita, their love and their epic battle. And the second one will obviously be the present where Dev would be coming after the Brahmansh and the Brahmastra. Shiva and other members will confront him, leading upto another battle.

We can even expect some emotional moments of Dev and Shiva remembering Amrita, Shiva getting defeated and Dev getting hold of the Brahmastra, making way for Part 3. In a not so ignorable possibility, Amrita might also be found alive who would then reunite with his son to finish Dev once and for all, if there isn’t a new and bigger enemy. In that case everyone would unite. Like the Avengers.

Let’s not forget Isha. Her character too sparked a lot of theories. Shiva’s visions of Dev start when Isha gives him a flower in the pandal. She is too eager to join him in his journey without knowing him much. Even if she is not evil, Tenzing is dead and she may now be the weilder of Pawanastra. Remember this line from the song Deva Deva? – ‘Tu hai hawao ka jhoka, main aag hu.’

In addition, Dev might be having another astra, probably called the Vidyut-Astra, as we see him spawning red lightning in every frame.

So many theories, so many possibilities. How excited are you to witness the magic of the Astraverse on the big screen? If you have any theories of your own, connect with us on our instagram post mentioned in the end.
