It was reported a few months ago that ‘Don 3’ is to be made with Ranveer Singh and not Shah Rukh Khan.
The makers have already shot the intro teaser featuring Ranveer Singh as the new Don and were waiting for the right time. Earlier it was expected to be out on 6th July, which is Ranveer’s birthday, but then the makers thought about Ranveer’s previous string of flops and decided to wait for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’s success.
And now that it has happened, the makers have officially announced the film today with a reel, where the number ‘3’ appears in red, along with a theme that resembles the old ‘Don’ theme. The proper announcement teaser featuring Ranveer will be out in the next 2-3 days.
However, the announcement was not well received by the audience as everyone wants Shahrukh Khan to return in Don 3. And why not, we have been waiting for the third installment for the last 12 years, from the moment we saw ‘Don 3’ written on the number plate of SRK’s bike at the end of ‘Don 2’.
There is no doubt about Ranveer’s caliber. He is a chameleon who gets into the skin of every character he plays. He will definitely be terrific. We have trust in Farhan’s direction too. It’s just that, SRK’s Don did not have a proper ending. It needed a trilogy to be complete and then we would have been ready to move on. Something like we all felt with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man, Henry Cavill’s Superman and The Witcher. While you are waiting for more, it’s not easy to accept the change suddenly. It’s not easy to move on unless you have closure.
Looking at the negative response, Excel Entertainment had to release an official statement.
The film will not be a continuation of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Don 2’ but a reboot of his Don franchise but it will be marketed as ‘Don 3’.
The team is excited to introduce Ranveer Singh as the new Don for the young generation. Releasing the teaser along with the run of Ranveer’s recent successful film, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ is a perfect strategy to give it a better reach.
But the good/bad news, however you perceive it, is that Don 3 isn’t expected to hit us any time soon as Ranveer will start shooting for it only after he completes Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Baiju Bawra’ in 2024. Currently, Bhansali is busy in his Netflix directorial ‘Heera Mandi’. Overall, ‘Don 3’ is expected to release sometime in 2025.
