‘OMG 2’ Review and Analysis – A Must Watch Film

The greatest strength of the film is its writing and acting. The writing is so brilliant that it weaves the problem of sex-related problems in teens, its causes, impact, society’s perception, solution and Lord Shiva very beautifully. Kudos to the makers for taking such a bold concept and creating a beautiful film. It is filled with various emotions, trauma, comedy, devotion, awareness, social message and most importantly, entertainment.

Acting

All the actors, yes all of them have done a brilliant job. Pankaj Tripathi as Kanti Sharan Mudgal is exceptional, the way he catches hold of the MP dialect is something other actors should learn from and put efforts in. Don’t just scratch the surface, dive deep. Aisa kuch Bawaal mein Varun Dhawan ne kiya hota toh feel hi alag ati. He did better in Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya but actors need to put in more efforts.

Pankaj Tripathi’s wife is hilarious, his two children have also done their job well. Yami Gautam represents the classic mentality of society calling all sex-related talks obscene, vulgar and even calls masturbation a sin. Thoda creative tareeke se samajhna zaruri hai. Pavan Malhotra as the judge is also quite good. Brijendra Kala as the sexologist and all other actors hold their ground very well. Casting and performance on point.

Music

Not a fan of the film’s music. Oonchi Oonchi Wadi ka placement theek hai lekin mujhe wo gaana koi bahaut pasand nahi hai (personal opinion). I relate to Namo Namo from Kedarnath a little more. It is beautifully written and sung. Ek popular bhajan ko utha lene se accha ek naya gaana bana lete. Har Har Mahadev bhi EDM dal ke kuch khas feel nahi jagata hai. I mean in terms of blending in a film. High hoke trance music ke liye theek hai. Video acchi hai lekin kuch toh missing tha. I guess color grading se thoda affect padta. Listen to ‘Bolo Har Har’ from Shivaay’ and focus on the music and lyrics.

Akshay as Lord Shiva

I liked OMG part 1 because it showed how Lord Krishna came to Earth in human form, observed everything lekin behavior aur baatein Krishna wali hi thi. Jaise butter kha gaye, mera favouite hai, patni 16 hazaar, aur key chain ghumate rehte the. Waise hi Shiv aye hain iss baar iss baat ko leke main saalo se excited tha.

I’m ignoring that forceful, bad CGI scene because the CBFC thought that people would have a problem. Kuch bhi aisa tha nahi jisse kisiko koi problem honi chahiye thi. Shiva is always guiding Kanti Sharan Mudgal, but in his own way, indirectly, throughout the film. Ab favourite scenes aur spoilers ki baat hogi, fir mujhe mat kehna.

Unko bag kho jata hai (not really) which seems like made of Tiger fur (jispe wo baithte hain). Uss bag ko gira dete hain ‘Choohe’ (Ganesh ji reference) and fir usme se jo nikalta hai that helps Kanti Sharan. “Kisi ka zeher peena pad gaya tha” (Neelkanth). That was such small but brilliant portrayal. Whole theatre gasped, few clapped. “Ganga kaha se behti hai mujhe mat batana”, and “Shiv ke das – nahi, Shiv ke pass” are very delightful parts in the film. Nandi following Shiva is shown more than once and it always makes me smile.

One of the unexpected parts is that Shiva is singing, ‘O ghar aja pardesi’. That was so funny and nice, integrating the film in box office clash with their own. This must have been integrated recently, coz his lips were not seen, they used wide shots instead. Lekin kya kamal ka integration kiya hai. My only complaint is that his parts were less. Left me wanting for more.

Slow Claps for the CBFC

They gave this film an ‘A’ certificate. Why? They don’t think this film is suitable for teens? The film exactly shows how kids do not have knowledge and are intrigued by external factors and then venture into wrong paths. Koi batata nahi hai, baat nahi karta, toh problem aur badhti hai. Isi liye ye film banai hai aur isi ko nahi dekhna chahiye humare mahaan CBFC ke hisaab se. Teens are already consuming a lot of stuff which is wrong lekin ek right cheez ayi hai toh wo galat hai inke hisab se.

‘A’ certificate ke baad bhi ek condom ka hoarding change kar diya. Matlab kya chah rahe ho yar? Kis zamane mein reh raho aur kis mindset ke sath jee rahe ho? We are living in a country that has the maximum population in the world. We indulge in sex more than anyone else. We are one of the highest consumers of porn. Free wifi deti hai govt toh maximum porn hi download hota hai. Metro station (Rajiv Chowk, Delhi) par porn chal jata hai, Bihar ke Railway station ke scren par porn chal jata hai. Income nahi hai fir bhi bacche pe bacche ho rahe hain, awareness nahi hai toh teenage pregnancy, illegal abortions, deaths aur pata nahi kya kya ho raha hai. Lekin baat nahi karenge.

God and sex were very separate in this film toh usko point ko toh lana bhi mat beech mein. The film has repeatedly talked about respecting women. It has also shown that because we do not talk about it, people think it is wrong and then all kinds of wrong thoughts are created. From child abuse to sex workers, from masturbation to people enjoying rape videos, the movie covers all in a very well manner.

Yes, there are a few people who do not understand creativity and they never will. We can’t be scared of them because they will outrage. I’ll give you one big example to make this clear. The difference between how artists and intellectual people think. We have seen so many breakdowns and creative discussions of Hollywood films, let’s do one today. Look at this image below.

Subah mandir mein shivling par jal chadhate hain toh Shivji aspass jo bhi jal hota hai waha jake baith jate hain. Jo iss case mein Railways ka ek waterpipe hota hai.

  1. Jal is not just water but it represents Ganga as well.
  2. Moon in the sky is very obvious to understand.
  3. The station at the back takes the shape of a mountain, resembling how Shiva resides in the mountains (Kailash Parvat).
  4. The trains are the most important part here coz they are more metaphorical than the above-mentioned things. Trains are time bound. They have a start and an end. They represent journey. They carry life in them. Hence trains here are a representation of timelines. Samay. Shiva is Timeless. Na Adi hai na Ant. Timelines ayengi jayengi, universe banenge aur nasht honge lekin Shiva wahi ke wahi rahenge.

This scene was that deep. Beautiful, brilliant and one of the best artistic things done in cinemas. Lekin kuch kam dimag ke logon ne kehna shuru kar diya ki aise kaise dikha sakte hain ki bhagwan train ke pipe ke neeche baithe hain. Result – CBFC ne scene edit karwa diya. Peeche se sab hata diya. Sab. Shiva bas ek plain background ke samne baithe hain aur upar se imaginary pani gir raha hai.

Kyu? Kyuki trailer mein kuch logon ne outrage kiya aur CBFC darr gaye? Dimag kaun lagayega? If one is intelligent and one is not, should the unintelligent one upgrade or the intelligent one should downgrade? Grow some balls CBFC. Stand up for the right things. Don’t say “people will not understand”.

Keep in mind that we are also a nation where films like Vicky Donor and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan were celebrated. There was Padman and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha too. Entertainment mein wrap karke 2-3 kaam ki baatein kahi ja sakti hain. Ek cheez hua karti thi, ‘satire’. Ab toh koi attempt bhi karega toh boycott boycott shuru ho jayega.

Let me give you one more example of how creativity works. Akshay drives a car in the end and that car is a Lamborghini. Think why chose Lamborghini and not any other brand?

All the changed dialogues were very evident, coz the lipsync is off. You can see things have been changed. It is time for the people to stand up and talk about and discuss good cinema. Collections discuss karte rahoge, fanclubs banaoge, goosebumps goosebumps karte rahoge toh kachra hi milta rahega. I don’t give stars or ratings but I want to ask people that please go and watch this film. Not because it deserves to be a Hit but because it deserves to be seen. Har Har Mahadev!
