“Main Paatal Lok Ka Na Permanent Niwasi Hu“
Hathiram Chaudhary is Back!
Kaafi shiddat se intezar tha Paatal Lok season 2 ka. While the promos by Prime Video India are quite good, the trailer is seems to be average. But it has its merits. Let’s discuss.

Changing Dynamics
Imran Ansari (Ishwak Singh) was the junior of Hathiram Chaudhary (Jaideep Ahlawat) but now he is the senior. The uneasiness in their conversation, the change in language from ‘tera’ to ‘apka,’ that salute to the senior before leaving, you can feel the difference. That’s good writing, good direction and good acting. Looking forward to the two on them working on the case again.

What Is Paatal Lok?
I thought Delhi was Paatal Lok. And they would be showing cases in Delhi/NCR. But here they have gone to Nagaland this time. When north Indians go to any place which is even slightly different, its so much fun, given that the makers show the cultural difference well, and do not make the natives as caricatures or show one superior to another. Bhediya and The Family Man season 2 showed the cultural difference well.

What’s Missing
We really need strong characters like Sanjeev Mehra, Dolly Mehra, names like Hathoda Tyagi and Chaaku. Obviously the same actors and characters will not be here, but equally strong and interesting characters in season 2 as well. Jis cheez ke liye Paatal Lok famous hua, jo cheez uski identity hai, usko maintain karna zaruri hai. Mirzapur season 3 mein yahi gadbad hui ki, teeno Tripathi, Maurya, Maqbool, sab story se chale gaye theek hai, lekin equally strong characters nahi aye unke badle. So puri feel chali gayi. Panchayat on the other hand was able to hold that very well.
Saare Amazon Prime ke examples diye, hope you get my point. Paatal Lok season 2 trailer mein aisa koi character nahi dikha. Tillotama Shome is there and she is a very good actress, but character wise kuch feel nahi diya kisi ne bhi. Only excited for Hathiram Chaudhary and Imran Ansari.

Trailer Cut
The trailer is good, no doubt. but there are no peak moments or noteworthy dialogues. The opening and ending dialogues are good, I love them, but by noteworthy I mean, dialogues that turn into memes, that people say in comments or to friends, that turn into posts where people love to comment. When trailers are able to this, hype increases automatically, as film pages and fans pick it up everyone starts talking about it.
Another thing to note, length was 2 minute 28 seconds. Webseries are usually two to three times the length of a regular film. So even after double the content, they have such duration of a trailer. Where as most films have longer trailer these days, showing a lot of the content or plot in the trailer itself.

Paatal Lok Ki Feel
I missed high moments, interesting characters and dialogues, which is why I say its average. I will watch it because of season 1 and the two police officers, but if this was a trailer for a new series, it should have failed to excite me as much. Similar to how we do not watch most of the series that release throughout the year.
