Pushpa International Hai, Lekin Nolan Global Hai
Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar was finally back in theatres this month, but it was released for just a week. Yet, in that short time, the movie made a huge impact among fans, audiences, and especially at the box office.

Initially, Interstellar was planned to release globally in IMAX in December 2024. While it did release globally, the release was held back in India because all IMAX screens were allotted to Pushpa 2. Fans and audiences wanted to experience Interstellar in IMAX only, and the Cinema owners knew that. So they pushed the release further.

Revenge Tale
In December 2024, Pushpa 2 beat Interstellar’s re-release collection in North America, its home country. More people went to watch Pushpa 2 than Interstellar.
However, Interstellar re-released in India for just seven days (7th Feb – 13th Feb) and collected more in IMAX screens than Pushpa 2 did in its entire IMAX lifetime.
The ticket prices for Interstellar were way cheaper than Pushpa 2 in IMAX formats and yet the collection was higher. Meaning that more people went to watch Interstellar in IMAX in India than they went for Pushpa 2.
Not only on weekends, but even on weekdays, IMAX screens had more occupancy. Morning shows were also packed in cities like Mumbai, and the number of footfalls was high.
Pushpa 2 collected ₹5.6 crores in India from IMAX screens, while Interstellar’s re-release earned ₹10.5 crores in just one week. Interstellar almost collected double of Pushpa 2, proving yet again how strong Nolan’s fan base is in India.
