Metro sunne ke baad sabse pehle dimaag mein yehi cheez aati hai yaar.

Music

I just noticed the makers have released the music album as Side A, and T-Series recently posted a video that Side B is releasing very soon. So what’s the logic behind this? I’ll explain.

Side A mein wo songs hain jo actually mein songs hain jaise Zamaana Lage, Dil Ka Kya, Qayde Mein and others. And Side B is those songs where characters are communicating with each other by singing songs – just like Jagga Jasoos.

You remember Katrina and Ranbir used to talk to each other by singing songs? Same thing Anurag Basu repeated here but it was too much in the first half. It was like 7–8 songs in the first half only. But still, everything was enjoyable.

The music album is terrific. The big-screen experience of Dil Ka Kya and Mann Ye Mera was excellent. The music of this album definitely deserves a big-screen experience.

I always adore the music choices of Anurag Basu because he perfectly understands situational music. I’ve said this before also — now I’m repeating again — everyone praises music albums of Mohit Suri and Sandeep Reddy Vanga a lot, but Anurag Basu is underrated in this section. He has given some really amazing music albums to the industry like Ludo, Barfi, Life in a Metro and now Metro… In Dino. All songs were terrific. But what I didn’t like was the overuse of songs. In Life in a Metro, the songs were blended perfectly, but in this sequel, that touch was missing.

Anthology of Basu

Anurag definitely knows how to showcase multiple stories in a single film. Ludo still stands out for me. In Metro In Dino, he didn’t try only 4 stories — but 6 stories. Anurag Basu tried to show all age group stories in this film. Like there was a teenager story also — wo ladki khud sochti rehti hai baar baar ki wo straight hai ya lesbian? I mean, wo story waha zaroori nahi thi. Socha hoga makers ne ki yaha log relate kar paayenge, but wo kisi bhi angle se relatable nahi thi.

All 4 stories which had prime focus were portrayed beautifully, but if you are watching this film with your partner, tum log hi ek dusre par doubts karne lagoge. Today’s generation is far, far ahead of this concept. This wasn’t a perfect Gen Z blended film. The blend of 4 stories was really good. The character connection was also good. I love the character development here. But still didn’t find it much relatable.

What I noticed is: the first half of the film focused on Parth (played by Aditya Roy Kapur) and Akaash (played by Ali Fazal), and in the second half, the story focuses more on Monty (played by Pankaj Tripathi) and Parimal’s (played by Anupam Kher) characters. Makers smoothly blended the shift, and it was done right.

What I loved most was the editing and cinematography — the frame-changing was really great. Ek frame se dusre frame pr jaana, wo bhi smoothly — kaafi acha aur satisfying lagta hai wo.

Acting

Parth (Aditya Roy Kapur): He was like a free guy, jo mann mei aaye karo, kisi cheez ka intezaar mat karo. The role totally suited him. He was really good in the role.

Chumki (Sara Ali Khan): Still, Sara needs to learn a lot about acting. She still can’t even scream and cry properly. The character of Chumki definitely suited her, but the acting skills need to be improved. In Metro In Dino, she was decent, but can’t match others. In fact, Fatima was far better than her in the film.

Akaash (Ali Fazal): He was expressive through his eyes only. His role was really good, but I have a complaint — he got very little screentime. Apart from other actors, he did a great job but deserved better.

Shruti (Fatima Sana Shaikh): After Ludo, this is her second film with Anurag Basu and she was good in both. Her performance was also good. She plays the role of Akaash’s wife, where both are struggling too much in life.

Monty (Pankaj Tripathi): Yes, you heard right — Pankaj here plays Monty. This was like giving a tribute to Irrfan because in Life in a Metro, Irrfan Khan played the role of Monty with Konkona. Here, Pankaj plays the character of Monty. The sarcastic flow of Monty was the thing I really loved. Comic timing, jokes — everything landed properly. But his story was really immature. I mean, itna affair kon sehta hai real life mein? There was too much of extra marital affair this time in the film. Isiliye kaha — sath jaaoge toh doubt karne lagoge ek dusre par.

Konkona Sen Sharma (as Kajol): She was looking pretty throughout the film. Her performance was also good.

Parimal (Anupam Kher): His story deserved a better ending, but his character story was written in a way that no writing can change that destiny. But the acting was really great.

Shivani (Neena Gupta): Her character wasn’t written in depth. She appeared on screen for lesser time, but the role was good. In short, there were no flaws in acting.

Apart From This Kush Jotwani , Saswata Chatterjee, Mikhail Gandhi , Darshana Banik , Vanshika Taparia , Rohan Gurbaxani And Others were good in the film.

Special Mention

Loved seeing Pritam and band singing in public places. The situations when the band was appearing again and again was nostalgic, and I really liked it.

This time band is looking stylish – they were wearing black outfits only but with different designs and styles just like Life In A Metro.

Special Mention For Papon. He deserves more “Yaad” song is still stuck in my mind. And yes, how can I forget Raghav Chaitanya for Dil Ka Kya? He Was too good dude!!

Now The Thing That Disappointed Me

First, they showed most of the story in the trailer itself. And the second thing, which I hated — too much positivity around the film. I mean, why? So many YouTubers are saying old school romance is back? Kaha se wapas aaya bhai? Konsa old school romance affairs aur cheating sikhata tha? Many critics are saying best romantic film? I don’t know why this happens every time. Itni positivity ke baad excitement aa jaati hai, phir movie dekhne ke baad disappointment milti hai.

Picture Dekhein Ya Nahi ?

Metro In Dino was a good and decent film which deserves your time — but on OTT only.
Cinematic experience itna bhi kuch khaas nahi hai. Gaane toh ghar pe headphones laga kar bhi sun loge.
But yes — the music album is GOAT.

Final Verdict

Metro In Dino showcases real and fictional stories — sometimes you can connect, sometimes you can’t. Some moments are boring, some are genuinely funny. Something feels missing, something is perfect. This is how life also functions, right? Kabhi seedhi, kabhi tedhi.

If you are searching for something to watch in theatres and have enough time and money, then you can go for it in theatres. Otherwise, you can watch it on OTT. It will stream on Netflix after minimum 8 weeks – possibly on 29 August 2025 (unless they decide to delay it for some reason).
