“Tumhare Liye Har South Indian Madras, Bloody North Indian“
Trailer Overview
Bhai dekho, ab North-South theme hai toh hai. 2 States, Chennai Express, ye sab bol chuke, ab bar bar nahi. This film is very different from those two. So please lets not go there any more and discuss this in an intelligent way.
The Cut
Intelligent cut. They tried hard not to reveal the plot, the core conflict, and the resolution. Jo bahaut sare trailers kar dete hain aajkal, start to end beat by beat sab bata dete hain.
But in that pursuit, the trailer felt like it was all over the place. Even when not revealing the plot, the trailer itself needs to have a flow of its own. It starts well, everything is nice till one minute duration but then it gets on a rollar-cosster mode. Felt like it was just stuffed with a lot of random things, trying hard not to reveal the plot.
The Plot
Sid (Param) goes to Kerala, probably for a holiday with his friend Manjot Singh. He stays at a place owned/run by Janhvi Kapoor. Start se hi flirt karne lagta hai. Dheere dheere friendship ho jati hai and probably she also flirts with him.
But the thing is, she is getting married to someone else. Venu naam hai shayad, ek dance wale frame mein dekha tha. Bas, iske alawa kuch khas samajh nahi aya.
Music
Music is nice. Pardesiya toh start se hi sabko pasand hai. I liked the other ones too. Nothing too extraordinary like Saiyaara rage. But every song seems enjoyable in theatre, along with the film. Iss bar log bathroom breaks nahi lenge songs mein I feel.
North-South Culture
One of the key aspects I liked about the film is that they are showing a lot of kera culture. Costumes and food toh hai hi. We can see Sidharth participating in the boat race during Onam. There is elephant, there is a wedding, there are a lot of stuff.
Another thing that is very common is the comedy that arises from the difference of culture. 2 States mein zyada comedy part explore nahi kiya tha but Chennai Express was ful comedy. Sometimes blurring the lines of being racist. But good that people took it in good humour. Aaj toh sab offend ho jayenge. Param Sundari tackles it with some care. That’s what I felt.
The last rant of Janhvi Kapoor about all north indians thinking that all south indians are same, was hilarious. Ends the trailer on a high.
Acting
I liked both Sid and Janhvi in the trailer. Sid is being his charming self, while Janhvi is doing something different from her other films. I liked her more in the trailer, also because her performance is more loud, and feels different with the accent. In no way I felt that she was over the top or anything.
But I know some people will definitely be after her, either because they love to hate nepo kids, or because many have developed a mindset where they assume certain things about specific people or things. Example du? Kuch log bolenge fake accent hai. Kyuki adart hai aisa bolne ki.. mindset ban chuka hai. Kabhi suna hai south indians ko Hindi bolte hue? Similar accent hi ata hai. Ek hi family mein 3 alag accent sune hain maine. Kuch fake nahi hota. Chennai Express mein Deepika bhi theek thi aur yaha Janhvi bhi theek hai.
Kerala Tourism
The cinematography is beautiful. Such beautiful frames are there. Visually ye film bahaut acchi lagegi.
Final Thoughts
I’m not sure about box office numbers. I rarely am these days. Audience is unpredictable. The film clashes with Vash Level 2, jiska craze kaafi hai north belt mein. Ab dekhte hain log jate hain dekhne ya nahi.
Also, it has only one week with Vash Level 2, as next week we have Baaghi 4 – all very different genres. Even if Param Sundari is preferred by the audience, there will be some division of screens. Dekhte hain kya hota hai.
