“Fire Nahi, Iss Bar WildFire Hai“
Trailer Cut
So there are three things I have understood by observing trailers for years. 1. – you get the fans excited, serve mass, serve them anything. 2. – you get the cinephiles and neutrals excited but for that there needs to be creativity and effort to make it interesting. 3. – Give an intro into the world but do not reveal too much plot. The best trailers are the ones that can pull off all three.
I feel Pushpa 2 makers went for 1 and 3 and decided to skip 2. The trailer is average but it will serve the purpose. That is, excite the fans and save the plot for the big screen. I will say, it is an intelligent call from business point of view, but the film and marketing lover in me wanted point number two as well. Soch ke dekho na.. itne dino se India’s Biggest Film, India’s Biggest Film bol rahe hain, toh kya uska trailer bhi usi level ka nahi hona chahiye?
Now let’s discuss the other aspects in detail.
Trailer Length
Lamba nahi tha. Start aur end ke ads hata do toh 2:39 minute ka hi hota hai roughly. The best part was how they cut it. For the first minute, we get to hear two dialogues in voiceover and only glimpses. Nothing is in sequence. You can’t make out what comes first and what comes last. I call that an intelligent cut. Lekin overall flow mein maza nahi aya. Thoda random hi laga. Enough to excite fans and young folks. I think that is always the plan down south. Ab toh Bollywood mein bhi shuru ho gaya hai, toh kya bolein.
What I’m Excited For
The Characters – I love Pushpa. Log chhapri bolte hain lekin wo bhul jate hain ki wo ek mazdoor tha jo sadakchap aur chhapri hi rahega. I love that the makers made him that way. Wo posh nahi hai, na hi banne koshish karta hai. Bas apni wishes puri karta hai. Uska attitude aur dimag Raja wala hai lekin harkatein, rehen-sehen sab weird hi hai. That is the character. Allu Arjun nails it. They have taken him a notch up. I would like to see all that.
Srivalli pehle bhi excite nahi kari thi na ab ki. Bhawar Singh bahaut interesting hai. Ab wo badla lega. “Arre Deewano” song se entry mast thi. Very keen to see the faceoff. Baki parties bhi hain, sabka business kharab kiya hai Pushpa ne. Ministers tak involve ho gaye hain aur international bhi chala gaya hai. Sab peeche padenge, ab maza ayega.
I have high hopes from Sukumar for the story. Part 1 was simple but nice. Wish to see more in this one. Fingers crossed.
Plot Points We Now Know
This is a breakdown/analysis/theory and may have spoilers. So skip this if you want.
It seems like Pushpa will listen to Srivalli in business matters. Uske kehne se kuch cheezein karega jaisa kaafi movies mein dikhate hain kitna bhi bada Don ho, biwi ke samne nahi chalti. Then he goes international and waha pe ambush hota hai. Wo dock pe latkane wala aur pani mein girne wala scene.
Then everyone thinks Pushpa is dead. Notice the pyre burning scene. They use Laal Chandan ki lakdi and too many people are present. This only happens when somebody very important dies. I think that’s Pushpa.
Uske marne ke baad riots ho jate hain. Jo first glimpse/teaser mein dikhaya tha. Fir wo jungle ke camere mein dikh jata hai toh sabko pata hota hai ki wo zinda hai. Toh dushman dhundne lagte hain. Bhanwar Singh bhi hunt mein lag jata hai sabko peet peet ke inteerogate karta hai.
Fir wo Mahabharat ke Arjun ki tarah vanvaas mein Eunach (Hijra) wale roop mein rehta hai, wahi Devi wala roop jo second glimpse mein tha. Srivalli ek shot mein gale lag rahi hai ro ke, shayad wo usse iss sequence ke baad milti hai jab pata chalta hai wo zinda hai.
Bas itna hi. Just my theory from the promo materials. May or may not be right. Like I said, they have done the job of not revealing everything well.
Action/VFX/Music
Thanda. Don’t know if it felt that way because it was badly edited or if it is actually that bad. But it did not feel like a big budget high quality film. I want to tell everyone that I loved the first part and regretted not watching it in theatre. From story and characters to direction, dialogues and music, I liked everything. So I very much hope for the best from Pushpa 2. But the glimpses from the trailer did not make me feel that.
Movie toh main dekhne hi wala hu. Hype bhi acchi hai. Sab jagah Pushpa Pushpa hi ho raha hai. Trailer could have been better, but theek hai. 1000cr ka pre-release business ho chuka hota toh main bhi mehnat nahi karta (laughing emoji).
