“Husn Ke Tere Yaara, Duniya Ye Deewani Hai,
Jo Hua Mujhe Tujhse, Ishq Wo Ruhani Hai“
Song Overview
This song has won my heart. As opposed to all the previous assets, be it teaser 1, teaser 2, or the posters, this one is by far the best. I have a lot of things to say about a lot of stuff, so let’s get right into it.
Music, Lyrics and Vocals
One of my biggest complaints about song these days is the digitally produced music that is mostly focused on beats and targeted towards reel marketing, rather than actually focusing on real music. Most songs are also something just done to sell music rights, focus of popular singers or the star involved in the video, overlooking the fact that it does not fit in the narrative of the film.
Well, Zohra Jabeen has none of that. I love the music by Pritam. I love the lyrics. It sounds like how songs should be, the poetry, the meaning of the song matters. Sameer and Danish Sabri, thank you for staying true to the art form. Normally the rap parts today seem forced but here they are nice. Good work by Mellow D. Vocally by Nakash Aziz and Dev Negi fit well. Good composition team.
Picturization
Another major complain I have is the “Club Treatment.” One of the most lazy and non-creative way to shoot a song is to shoot it in a club. The production teams are pro at these and not much effort goes into trying to make stand out. The other lazy way is to cut to a far-off location like Ladakh, Kashmir or foreign land. A R Murugadoss did none of it and actually put efforts into making it beautiful.
There are so many things to notice in the song. The backdrop seems like the Raj Mahal/Haveli where Sikandar lives. I love the colors, which is mostly green and purple. Some frames are more green, some are more yellow. The overall play with the lights, the colors, and set design makes the song very vibrant pleasing to the eyes.
The overall song has been shot in front of small but different set pieces, which again shows planning and effort by the makers. Smoke is normal, fireworks suit very well. You can see they have done editing near the foot work when the actors dance. When the line comes “Tere raste mein ye, Dil bicha ke rakha hai,” Sikandar actually kicks off a carpet roll on which hearts are popping out. Small details add value to everything done on screen. I absolutely loved this.
Costumes and the Stars
Can we appreciate the fact that Salman Khan looks so good in that black kurta? I like this look more than any other promo we have seen before this. Costumes of all the other background dancers are also very vibrant and complement the theme. Reminded me a bit of Tumse Milke Dil Ka song from Main Hoon Na, where the difference is that there, all the crew had the same costume and here they are different. It actually looks like they came to celebrate Eid and then broke into a dance. It actually looks like a celebration. Thank you Farah Khan.
Rashmika Mandanna looks as beautiful as ever. Okay, I noticed something, tell me if you felt the same. The jewellery on her head has a blue stone that reminds us of Salman Khan’s iconic bracelet. Kya apko bhi aisa laga? Ya bas mujhe hi? Comment karke zarur batana.
Bhai Ka Dance
So this is the only thing I did not like. Salman Khan is not able to dance well. Yes, he looks very good but we know that since decades. But here the dance is not up to the mark even though the steps are not that difficult.
Don’t get me wrong, the criticism is only because as a piece of art, there are certain things that should be appropriate. We all love Salman and we know last year he was going through a lot. The age, the mental pressure takes a toll on the body as well. But while reviewing a piece of art, not mentioning that will also be wrong, isn’t it?
We know Bhai can dance. Some of my most favourites are in Wanted, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Partner, Dabangg 1&2. So we have an image of Salman Khan not just dancing but making the audience dance too. So if you are making a lavish song with the same actor, we will have some expectations.
Title Design
Hardly anyone will mention this in a review but this is OCD Times, hum detail mein ghuste hi hain. I’m a designer and editor and so I work a lot with fonts and colors. The font is similar to what we see on Eid posts, resembling the Farsi writing style. With the silver glitter on purple background, the title Zohra Jabeen looks different and apt for the theme.
The even did it on the Sikandar title. Soch ke dekho, kya zarurat thi karne ki? Normal bhi toh chhod sakte the. Kisko pata chalta? Kaun complain karta? But these small details are the choices an artist makes. It take some intent, some creativity, a little more effort. And these small details make any piece of art much better.
Final Thoughts
I like the song. It actually makes me groove to it. It will look wonderful in theatres. I think they have not shown the full song, it ends at 2:20 minute mark. So I guess we will be seeing a longer version in the film. This is a good call by the makers.
