Alpha Trailer Overview
Same old Bollywood problem – no impact, just tried to make the actors cool, revealed the whole story. But the blind hate against Alia Bhatt is beyond anything seen before.
Blind Hate
Been observing this for some years now, and currently, the blind hate against Alia Bhatt has exceeded anything seen ever. Chalo bad performance, bad films, stupid statements in media, in sab pe toh sabko troll kiya jata hai par abhi toh Alia kuch na bhi kare toh bhi dhund dhund ke peeche padte hain.
Baki sab chhodo, agar bas Alpha teaser-trailer ki hi baat kar lein toh kuch bhi bana ke troll kiya ja raha hai. Gun pakad li, toh X ki copy hai. Bike chala li, toh Y ki copy hai. Purple light dikhi frame mein, toh Z ka copy hai. Ye creative criticism hai?
People have really lost it. From personal life to each expression, each public appearance, each movie news/rumour that comes out, there is immediate hate everywhere. What has the world come to?
Blind Love
Blind fans bhi kam nahi hain. Alpha trailer is bad. But the fans won’t see it. And the Samosas too. Praising Alpha like it’s our answer to Black Widow or Kill Bill or Ballerina.
Then there is a section that is dragging Sharvari in their agenda of hating Alia. Sharvari is just flat in the trailer. Maybe its the shots they chose, coz she is a very good actress. But some people are just praising her like anything. Har taraf bas non-sense agenda-based baatein ho rahi hain. Extremes mein. Cinema is dying because of this mentality also.
Reality Check
Alpha trailer is as bad as any other Bollywood trailer these days. Par abhi special hate mil rahi hai coz, why not? But the truth is sabko dusro ki galti dikhti hai aur apne favourite actor ke ate hi sab bhul jate hain.
Similar sa trailer agar War, Tiger ya Pathaan series ka hota toh Goosebumps Goosebumps Aur Aura karte nahi thakte wahi log. Jo fan hai wo praise karta aur jo nahi hai wo gaali deta. Alia-Sharvari ko leke exactly wahi ho raha hai. Hrithik-Jr Ntr mein bhi same hua tha. King teaser ke time hua tha. Abhi Welcome To The Jungle ke liye ho raha hai. Same fan mentality on repeat dikhegi.
Revealing Hrithik’s cameo is outright bad. Lekin jo bhi fan hai wo abhi defend kar raha hai. Koi aura aura pe atka hai, koi keh raha hai sabko pata tha toh koi badi baat nahi. Abhi agar yaha Srk hota, toh wahi Hrithik fans bolte ki kya yar spoil kar dete hain ye log, aur Srk fans defend karte. Hazaro baar dekh liya, same thing happens every time.
Trailer Cut
3-minute duration zyada lagta tha. So YRF took a challenge and said, 2:33 minute mein hi puri story dikha denge iss bar. Abhi fans isko bhi defend kar rahe hain ki story mein kuch aur hua toh teri @#$%^@$!!&@

Apart from this, the flow, the style of editing, everything is quite template-based. It’s slick, technically sound, but not well thought out.
Music
Like I had said in the teaser review, Tiger, Pathaan, Kabir have iconic theme music. So why not for Alia and Sharvari? Template follow karte karte ye point kaise bhul gaye. Aur jo hai trailer mein, wo music jam nahi raha kahi se bhi.
Action
Very basic action. All the focus has been on showing the girls in cool shots. But the shots are basic, and they have not made efforts on the action choreography. We always accept that our protagonist will kick a$$. But kuch zyada hi dheele ghunde lag rahi hain Alpha ke.
Female-led action film bana hi rahe ho toh thodi inspiration le lete Ballerina, Kill Bill, Atomic Blonde se. Alia-Sharvari ki fight mein fir bhi kuch lag raha hai ki ek notch up jayenge, but not anywhere else.
Mytho-References
Sach batau toh I’m tired of Ramayana. 2-3 films ban rahi hain abhi. Fir serials bhi chal rahe hain. Fir koi AI films bhi bana raha hai on Hanuman and what not. Mahabharat pe bhi multiple projects ban rahe hain. Aur kahi kuch fresh nahi ho raha hai. Bas inko formula mil aya hai toh chipkaye ja rahe hain sab jagah.
Janki-Sita, Agnipariksha, Sita Khud Aa Rahi Hai Lanka Jalana, kya hai ye sab? Jab modern, stylized action hai, toh wahi rakho na kya dikkat hai? Why trying too hard to feel Indian?
Audience Is Fool?
Over time, ye toh samajh aa hi gaya hai ki yes, audience is a fool. Kaafi ghatiya films ko bhi hit karwa dete hain, aur online fanwars mein hi busy rehte hain, sahi jagah criticism nahi karte. But when filmmakers think they are fool, they stop putting any efforts coz they know, fans toh dekh hi lenge, aur online criticism hone par makers ko defend bhikar lenge.
Look at this scene (picture below). They are climbing a mountain without any gear. They are wearing sneakers. Look at the height of the mountain behind them. They are parallel to a snow-capped mountain, aur kapde dekho.
Please guys, the audience has become smarter, they watch international movies, they know about things around the world, they have become smarter. Don’t think of them as fools that you can get away with any low effort thing you throw at them.
Vfx also, as usual, is evident that they shot on green screen and put a background plate later.
Rogue Agent
Fir wahi Rogue Agent wala angle. Bobby Deol was doing the Alpha program for India. But the seniors did not allow him for some reason. Maybe his methods were bad, or he was doing side deals for personal gains, or killing people whom se thought were bad, without authorization. So he was removed, and because he was hurt, he started his own program and is now anti-India. Kitni bar wahi sab?
Plot Prediction
Bobby-Alia ki backstory. Training montage. Alia’s initial mission. She gets to know the truth about Bobby. She turns. Anil sends Sharvari. Anil-Sharvari somehow get Alia on their side. They go for training or info or refuge to Hrithik. He also tests them first by making them fight with useless men in black. Then all of them attack Bobby. Final battle happens on Alpha base with army and big guns. Final one-on-one with Bobby.
Ab iska alawa ko bhi bachega wo dekhne jayenge, which I call ‘Fill In The Blanks’ Beech mein 1-2. twist kar denge. Kahani jo maine boli uski jagah non-linear kar denge. Bas.
Final Thoughts
Because the plot will not be that elaborate, the only thing that can still make the film fun is the camaraderie between Alia and Sharvari. Some girl stuff that is different from the usual Spy stuff we see in Tiger, Pathaan, War. And maybe some twist we have not seen coming.
These can still salvage the film, though I’m not sure how they will excite the audience enough to go to theatres with all the hate online. Coz Yrf marketing toh dekh hi chuke ho aap pichli spy films ki. Pata nahi kya hoga. Band hi kardo Spy Universe iske baad. Dil tod diya hai.
