Teaser Overview
Param Sundari is a story about a boy from north and a girl from south, so it’s obvious our minds will go to the previous films we have watched with similar themes. The first look of Param Sundari was short and delightful. Ab jo bhi notice kiya, feel kiya, wo main apko batata hu.
The Cut
Very crisp, very sweet, with a start, middle and end. The glimpse perfectly introduces the characters Param and Sundary, the world they belong to, and the musical part of the film. It is so perfect that it should be called a teaser. LEt me explain why, in the upcoming sections.
Similarities With Other Films
Because we all have watched a lot of movies, some of us even crossed thousands, it is important to understand that we may find parallels from other movies, even though something is full original. This does not mean copy kiya hai. It simply means 2 stories or films have few things in common.
North Boy – South Girl, love story and shaadi se sabse pehle 2 States ka hi naam yaad ata hai. Jab announcement hui this tab bhi kuch logon ne kaha tha “Isko 2 States 2 ghoshit kyu nahi kar dete.” It was said in humour but this shows almost everyone was reminded of the Dharma film.
Chennai Express too had North boy – South girl theme but it was mostly a comedy and the aim was not marriage. The event were different. But Sidharth going to her village and people running after him to beat him reminds us of Chennai Express. Few shots of Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor also look similar to Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone from Chennai Express.
Why Heropanti then? If you look closely, Siddharth Malhotra goes to Janhvi Kapoor’s town and she is getting married. But not to him. She is getting married to someone else, the whole family is there and Sid is there unable to do anything. That part reminded me of Heropanti.
In no way I’m criticising the film or saying its not originals. Cinema parallels are very normal and people notice such things all around the world.
Music
Very soulful, very pure. Reminded me of the pre-pandemic era where pure songs were made with melody, poetry and singing, instead of digitally produced stuff for the algorithm. Sony Nigam’s voice is magical as usual. Sid and Janhvi too look great together, filmed on beautiful locations.
Plot
This was good enough to be called a teaser as it does the full job of a teaser as I explained in the above sections. We do not need much details before watching the film. But yes, the studio needs to market the film, so I think there should not be any teaser now, just the trailer and short promos.
Ladka ladki pyaar, north south difference, ladki ki shaadi dusri jagah, aur kitna plot janna hai? I hope they cut the trailer intelligently, highlighting the good parts but not reveal too much from the story. Bhool Chuk Maaf has exactly the same problem. Except the end and a few scenes, you know the whole film from the trailer itself.
Box Office Clash
The film is clashing with Fantastic Four: First Steps
